Extreme Wines trade tasting at Core Catering, Woodstock

Michelle Stewart and her colleague Colleen represent some very good wine producers

Charles Fox Cap Classiques always produces quality wines
The Reserve Brut is zesty and satisfying, good mousse
The charming Reserve Rosé has lovely raspberry flavours from the Pinot Noir and is crisp and perfumed
The 2017 Blanc de Blanc is clean and dry with bready notes and a real pleaser, aging so well
We really liked the MC Furneaux Chardonnay, which is unoaked, salty minerality, good golden fruit and soft on the palate;
only two barrels were made

Carsten Migliarina with his outstanding range of wines
His Bush Vine Chenin is one of the best we have tasted this year, layers of fruit and class
His 2024 Chardonnay has salinity and floral fruit, clean, crisp and fruity on the long palate

The Migliarina range

The Albarinho is more than interesting, crisp, layered and with so much fruit; a food champion
And the Grenache is a Wow! Fruit in layers so easy to keep going back to, especially with food

Winemaker Adam Mason of Terra Paisible wines in Franschhoek with chef Evan Coostner
Adam is certainly producing classy wines from this cool climate area
They included an 2023 Old Vine Sauvignon Blanc harvested from 35-year-old vines, 2023 Isabelle Rosé, a blend of 60% Grenache Noir and 40 % Mourvèdre
This Rosé was produced from dryland farmed vineyards; and a 2023 Vigne D'Or Sauvignon Blanc

Adam Mason's Terre Paisible wines

Dirk Swanepoel and his wines from Tulbagh

Cilmor manager/winemaker Quintin van der Westhuizen
The name Cilmor is the first and last syllables of founder Ce(cil Mor)gan's name
He has done very well with his Premium Collection 2024 Chenin Blanc with its salty minerality and crisp fruit with long flavours
The 2024 Chardonnay has peach and oak and good mouthfeel
The 2025 Merlot Rosé has cherry, raspberry and is juicy. This range is very well priced.

and awards for his Wine Maker's Selection 2021 Pinotage and Shiraz

The well-awarded at Veritas, Winemakers Selection 2025 Sauvignon Blanc was impressing all who tasted it
Green pyrazines, minerality, a lovely silky mouthfeel and a little wood makes you keep coming back for more
The 2025 Sauvignon Semillon is full, classy with layers pf fruit, a good mouthfeel and long flavours

The 2024 Chenin has orange rind, peach and apricot on the nose and palate with good minerality

Pisaiolo chef Christian Wilderer
A "pinsaiolo" is a master of pinsa, the Roman-style flatbread known for its light, airy, and crispy texture, achieved through a unique dough made with a blend of flours and long fermentation

His pinsas were coming out of the kitchen to sustain us and were indeed very crisp and enjoyable

The Vrede and Lust 2022 Ella is a blend of Shiraz, Grenache and Viognier that is so satisfying
and full of fruit with some spice

Vrede en Lust assistant winemaker Elaina and Global Sales Manager Maia Bezuidenhout
had a huge range of wines for tasting

Vrede en Lust MCC Sarah, made from Chardonnay, Pinot noir and Chenin blanc. A delight

The extensive range of Vrede en Lust wines for tasting

Henry and Riette Kotze and their Pilgrim wines. We really liked their Sauvignon Gris 2025  and their Grenache Gris 2025

It is not often that you see these varietals and they are doing them well

X Wines are made by Jaco Pienaar, a negociant who buys in his good grapes to make the wines

Cool climate with wood support, crisp with good minerality and a long end
This was his 2023 House of Hier Chenin blanc sourced in Bonnievale
