Cape Town, South Africa – The Cape Winemakers Guild Auction will take place on Friday, 2 and Saturday, 3 October 2026, at a new venue: Strauss & Co, Brickfield Canvas in Woodstock, Cape Town.
This annual event is a highlight on the calendars of wine enthusiasts both locally and abroad. With Guild members producing wines in small quantities exclusively for the Auction, it is the go-to for anyone seeking to add rare and unique South African wines to their collection.
As a hybrid event, live bidding will take place in-person at the venue and virtually via the Strauss & Co website.
New venue, next chapter
The move to Strauss & Co’s Cape Town HQ at Brickfield Canvas in Woodstock marks a fresh chapter for the Auction. Reflecting Cape Town’s dynamic art scene, this vibrant, creative space provides the perfect backdrop to an enhanced auction experience. Guests will be able to enjoy more walk-around space with increased opportunities to engage with the wines and the winemakers behind them.
Masterclass Tastings
Leading up to the Auction, the Guild will host two highly sought-after Masterclass Tastings at The Westin in Cape Town (20 August 2026) and Strauss & Co in Houghton, Johannesburg (26 August 2026). These intimate events are the only opportunities to formally taste the complete collection of 2026 Cape Winemakers Guild Auction wines before bidding begins.
Presented by the winemakers themselves, the masterclasses offer guests unique access to the stories, techniques and philosophies behind each wine. Limited spaces are available.
Tickets for the Guild’s popular Pretoria Country Club Tasting have already sold out. This event is a prime opportunity to explore a selection of Auction wines and engage with Guild members in a more informal setting. We encourage those who are interested in attending next year to book their tickets early.
Introducing a walk-around Final Pre-Auction Tasting
Rather than the traditional seated format for the Final Pre-Auction Tasting, guests will be able to sample wines at their leisure and interact directly with winemakers during an informal walk-around tasting from 10am to 12pm before the Friday Auction Session. Designed to encourage conversation and discovery, the format allows attendees to build a deeper understanding of the wines before bidding.
Access to this Tasting is included for registered Auction attendees and those holding tickets for the Friday Auction session. The tasting area will remain open throughout both Auction days, allowing guests to revisit wines and refine their selections before placing bids.
