A light lunch at Silvermist

Sandra Engelen used to run a very successful restaurant on a flower farm in Wynberg and has now parted company with the owners. We were so thrilled to hear that she now has another restaurant, also called The View, at Silvermist estate, just over Constantia Nek on the Hout Bay side. This time, it has an amazing view over the Constantia valley, the Cape Flats, False Bay and the Stellenbosch mountains in the distance. We had to be in the area recently and decided to drop in to see it. Grapevines, lupins as a cover crop and cows from the farm are grazing in the car park

and those views!

Further up the road is La Colombe restaurant and also the Cape Town Zip Line,
which has its booking office next to the Silvermist restaurant

A sunny spring day

Up a few steps to the restaurant deck

which has lots of outdoor seating, with people enjoying the restaurant and the view
Sadly, we arrived during one of our too regular Eskom power cuts,
but the restaurant staff were welcoming and said they could provide us with something for lunch,
although grilled or cooked items were not available during the power cut

It was a chilly day, so we decided to eat inside

and moved to a table next to the window
Lynne's sister had her 60th birthday here a couple of years ago and it does look like an ideal space for a celebration
Do ask Sandra if she intends doing functions here

Lynne enjoyed a glass of the Silvermist 2020 Sauvignon Blanc, rich and mature with deep stone fruit flavours

We both ordered bagels for lunch. Lynne had her favourite filling, smoked salmon and cream cheese with avocado
and it is served with a very good side salad. The fruity vinegar and good olive oil on the table make a great dressing

John chose the Cheese, ham and tomato bagel which also comes with salad
The bagels were nice and fresh, as they should be

It also had a good pesto inside to liven it up. John had a beer with his lunch

They do have draught beer but sadly the pumps don’t work when the power is off
We plan to go back soon as the breakfast menu looks very good
and then, of course, there are the scones, cream and jam for tea.....

The bill
