Doornbosch Guest Farm

Searching on line for good out of town accommodation can be arduous; after many searches, Lynne had almost given up
We needed a place for 3 couples and, at our age, we all want our own bathrooms, a view and space
We were planning to go to the Triangle Wine Festival in Elim for the weekend
and she found this marvellous place at the last moment;
almost every other affordable place was already booked
It is called Doornbosch and is between Baardskeerderbos and Elim

Have a look at their website https://doornbosch.co.za/

The house we booked is called Eland. It is spacious, well decorated and equipped and has really good views

There are  five unique 4 star guest houses, housing from 2 to 8 guests. Ours was in the middle of a group of three
It is very well appointed with three en-suite bedrooms, a huge downstairs room, a terrace with braai facilities
and a fully fitted kitchen (the other two houses are similar but have two bedrooms each).
The estate is huge. It is a 5000 hectare working farm and they have cattle and some game
There is horse riding and you are welcome to drive yourself on a game drive

The entrances to the houses are on the side, under the pergola; you park in the lane

The kitchen is very large and has everything you might possibly need

Lots of storage

The lounge has an large open fireplace and a huge 10 seater dining table. Almost a baronial hall
As one friend commented, this was rather like being in a stately mansion or a castle on the Scottish moors!

One of the bedrooms is upstairs and has the entire space up there with several bed options

Comfortable seating and Venetian plastered walls

A ground floor bedroom

Another downstairs bedroom. The beds are very comfortable with feather duvets

One of the three bathrooms

With good showers

Part of the upstairs space

and the upstairs bedroom

The old style amboyna furniture really works in this elegant spacious house

Sundowner on the stoep, where they have another 10 seater table
This was before the rain, which was threatening, arrived

The braai. We went out to Marietjie's Pub in Baardskeerders, 7 km down the road, for supper on the first night
and we braaied on the evening after the wine festival
Sadly it rained, but we managed under the pergola on the far end of the terrace
We had a wonderful stay and hope to return one day

One of the two two-bedroomed cottages

The view from the stoep was rather like a Pierneef painting

On an early morning walk, an old barn on the farm

Early morning raindrops on young hakea leaves

A short avenue of bluegums leading to the fourth of the five houses
